Fun with Maps!

This activity gives your preschooler an introduction of directional and spatial concepts.

The next time that you go through the book have a map of your neighborhood. This time talk with your child about the places she visits on a weekly basis and were they are located. You can get super creative with this and snap pictures and cut and paste little thumbnail prints on the map. This helps the younger children with recognition. This activity is also a great vocabulary builder, as you talk about all the places your child visits.

Quick Map Idea

"To make a map super quick use mapquest or google maps.

Laminate or Contact Paper for reuse"

Dramatic Play

Reinforce Bears favorite places with some great play ideas that promote learning.

Monday Bear goes to the bakery. Set up a pretend bakery, you can use children play food or dishes. Although, children love to use the real versions, so get out the big bowls, measuring cups, baking pans and what ever else you can think of. To extend the activity you can also bake cup cakes or muffins this is a great math concept when you start talking about measurements.

Tuesday Bear goes for a swim. If it the weather permits, go to your local pool or get out the wading pool at home. If the weather does not permit, use a large storage container put water in it, get out all your child's little people and waterproof dolls and take a pretend trip to the pool, or the bathtub works great!

On Wednesday Bear watches a movie. This is easy enough, you and your child put in her favorite movie and relax.

Thursday Bear visits the gym. The importance of healthy activity for children can be reinforced by getting up and doing some fun physical activities. Here are some great and easy ideas. How far can your child jump? Teach your preschooler or toddler how to do jumping jacks, sit ups, or push ups.

On Friday Bear goes to the toy store. Get out the play money and step up a shop. Make sure that you keep some of the play money because you will be buying a lot of their toys. It's great fun.

Saturday Bear takes a trips to the park. Fresh air is good for everybody.

And on Sunday Bear goes to the playground to play with friends. Set a play date with your child's friends and enjoy.
